One Month until Windwood Opens!!

It's happening!! Or well, in one month, it will be!

We are so thrilled to announce our Resident Artist Events as well as confirm our Mainstage Events with a few exciting updates!

A large part of Windwood Music Festival are the events put together by our resident artists. These events take place around Airdrie and are done in collaboration with local businesses. Most importantly, they are entirely put together by the resident artist. Last year, our artists put together a drink-themed musical evening at Atlas Brewing, an afternoon of music and poetry hosted in collaboration with the lovely writers at Cedarwood Station, a children's concert at Nose Creek Amphitheater, and a Bach Cafe at Good Earth Coffeehouse. With the support of our wonderful Airdrie community, we laughed, we teared up, we cheered, we listened and participated, and we watched as classical music transformed these places that we already inhabit.

This year's residents plan to do the same with this incredible lineup of events:

Titus Young: Musical Bingo
It's like hide and seek, but with super cool cello music.
August 19th at 2PM @ Good Earth Coffeehouse

William Chiang: Vignettes from Vienna
A celebration of joy through classical music and a little trip through Europe.
August 22nd at 2PM @ Cedarwood Station

Olah Vilmos: Bach the Human
An evening of inner peace, understanding, and the humanity in all of us.
August 22nd at 6PM @ Living Springs Church

Nao Kubota: Musical Thoughts
A moment to embrace our wandering thoughts and experience them together.
August 24th at 2PM @ Airdrie Public Library

Teresa Wang: Folk Tunes at the Bar
Casual, chill night to hang out with drinks and tunes.
August 24th at 6PM @ 948 Brewery

Did we mention that they're all free?
Keep checking our website and social media accounts for updates on these events!

We KNOW that you've already put our Mainstage events on your calendar, but have you met our collaborators yet?
For our Renaissance Faire on August 23rd (5PM, Jensen Park Gazebo, just like it says on your calendar), we are thrilled to announce:

  • R.Song Studios and their amazing aerial acrobats

  • Nose Creek Players with their terrific thespians, who will be helping us set the tone of the faire as well as performing an incredible skit (with the musical help of our resident artists)

  • Local Airdrie artists with some fun crafts

For our Musical Carousel on August 25th (7PM, Chinook Park), we have:

  • Calgary Civic Brass Quartet playing a set of favourite tunes and giving us all reasons to dance

  • Aerial Rockview will be helping us capture some amazing drone footage of the event

  • Some of you hopefully! Local Airdrie musicians playing with us!

And last but not least, we are so excited to work with Brella Vida for a Masquerade! We bring the music, they bring the mystery, and magic will be everywhere. Tickets for this fundraising event will be on sale soon! As always, keep  checking http://www.windwoodfestival.com for more details!

All these events don't just happen on their own. They take the work of our whole admin team (Tong, Jana, Annie, and myself), and we work around the clock. Especially now, with the festival just one month out. It's hard work, but we are so passionate about bringing these events and these artists to Airdrie. We want them to get to experience the love that we have for Airdrie first hand, and the reasons that it is such an incredible city.

Unfortunately, it isn't enough to be passionate, and we still need your help securing the funds we need to make this happen. So much of the money goes directly back into the Airdrie community, and that's exactly as it should be. Supporting Windwood is so much bigger than just supporting Windwood. It helps us support this community that we love and that we want to see thrive. We know that things are pretty expensive these days, so if you are finding that you don't have space to give, that's ok. Sharing our campaign goes a long way in helping us spread Windwood's message.

And as always, we are grateful.
Thank you and SEE YOU SOON Airdrie!!

Maitreyi Muralidharan

Critically recognized as “an accomplished violin soloist,” (CVNC) Maitreyi Muralidharan is an east coast based musician and an avid orchestral and chamber performer. They hold a Bachelor's Degree from the Peabody Institute of Music under the tutelage of Herbert Greenberg, a Master’s Degree and Professional Arts Certificate from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts under the tutelage of Kevin Lawrence, and an Artist Diploma from McGill University under the tutelage of Violaine Melancon. Maitreyi was raised in North Carolina where they fostered a love for sharing music in group settings, whether in ensembles or as a teacher. They have also served as concertmaster of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Chamber Orchestra, UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of the UNCSA Chrysalis Chamber Music Institute for two years. They have attended summer music festivals in Colorado, New York, Canada, North Carolina, Vermont, and Germany, and have performed as a chamber musician on international stages. As a musician who has dealt with severe injury, Maitreyi has had to find their own paths in the field of classical and contemporary music, and in that process, has grown a deep appreciation and love for connecting with the unconventional. They aim to share this idea of connection with all walks of life—the idea that being a musician is far more than what is understood or seen, and that one of the greatest joys is fostering a sense of community that can happen any time music is made. Outside of being an orchestral and chamber musician, Maitreyi enjoys working with and advising new music ensembles, assisting violinists with injuries to find creative and sustainable playing practices, and farming.
