Nao Kubota

Project Title: Musical Thoughts

Date: 24 Aug @ 2 pm

Location: Airdrie Public Library

Performers: Nao Kubota, viola | Teresa Wang, violin | Olah Vimos, violin | Titus Young, cello

Project Description:

I would like to present a program where the audience and passersby can listen to the music, feel whatever comes to mind while listening, and share their thoughts or write it down on notes to put in a box to be read aloud anonymously afterward.

By sharing these thoughts, I would like the audience to experience how everyone hears music differently or similarly. I would like it to be a communal experience where listeners can have their own personal feelings and connection to the music, making classical music more relatable and accessible to the general public.

The repertoire I’ve selected are some of my personal favorites and pieces I have a connection to, paired with some contrasting works to provoke as many different ideas, moods, and images for the audience.

Repertoire:

  • Bach Goldberg Variations (String Trio) select movements

  • Caroline Shaw Limestone & Felt (Cello and Viola Duo)

  • Telemann Fantasia No. 1 (Viola Solo)

  • Hindemith Sonata Op. 25 No. 1 (Viola Solo) select movements

  • Bach Gamba Sonata No. 2 (Viola and Piano)
