    Location: Cedarwood Station

Performers: William Chiang, piano | Teresa Wang, violin | Nao Kubota, viola

    Project Description:

The theme of this program of short works for solo piano and string-piano duo is celebrating the positive aspects of life in these difficult times. Related subjects are the desire for exploration and learning new experiences. Music is a powerful healing force that can transform lives, encourage unity, and inspire love and understanding.

Entitled “Vignettes from Vienna”, the program of European classical works includes music primarily associated with Vienna, such as through composers who lived there or works inspired by Viennese culture. Vignettes are a type of picture, and in Austria, vignettes also refer to toll tags used on the motorways. Each work on the concert program is paired with a small card representing a musical “toll tag” with newly created artwork related to the subject of the musical work. These will be distributed to the audience as each piece is performed, which can be kept as keepsakes. Related to the theme of travel, audience members will be invited to share any past travel experiences they had related to the cities or countries associated with the musical work. Utilizing conversation and artwork, this concert will be a musical trip through various locations in Vienna and across Europe.

With this project, I hope that music can serve as a reminder that there is always much to experience and find joy in even through the difficulties of our time. Additionally, all the emotions we feel and the memories we remember throughout our lives should not be suppressed, and hopefully through this concert and our own life experiences and travels around the world, we can not only find joy in these little musical vignettes but perhaps also reflect on the events of our own lives.

    Location: Airdrie Public Library

Performers: Nao Kubota, viola | Teresa Wang, violin | Olah Vimos, violin | Titus Young, cello

    Project Description:

I would like to present a program where the audience and passersby can listen to the music, feel whatever comes to mind while listening, and share their thoughts or write it down on notes to put in a box to be read aloud anonymously afterward.

By sharing these thoughts, I would like the audience to experience how everyone hears music differently or similarly. I would like it to be a communal experience where listeners can have their own personal feelings and connection to the music, making classical music more relatable and accessible to the general public.

The repertoire I’ve selected are some of my personal favorites and pieces I have a connection to, paired with some contrasting works to provoke as many different ideas, moods, and images for the audience.

    Repertoire:

Bach Goldberg Variations (String Trio) select movements
Caroline Shaw Limestone & Felt (Cello and Viola Duo)
Telemann Fantasia No. 1 (Viola Solo)
Hindemith Sonata Op. 25 No. 1 (Viola Solo) select movements
Bach Gamba Sonata No. 2 (Viola and Piano)

  • by Titus Young
    Date: 25 Aug @ 10 PM
    Location: Good Earth Coffeehouse

    Performers: Titus Young, cello

    Project Description:

I plan to present a solo cello concert where I can perform some of my favorite pieces for solo cello. Alongside the music, I want to have the audience participate in a game of musical bingo. I would provide bingo cards with various musical items. At the beginning of the program I could give a brief explanation of the more technical terms and then begin to play. As I play, they would mark on their bingo cards things they hear, for example pizzicato, bariolage, or a repeat. This way the audience could remain not only engaged with the music, but also attentive to details they might not normally notice.

    Repertoire:

Bach Suite in C Major for solo cello
    Cassado Suite for solo cello
    Mark Summer Julie-O

    Project Description:

I would love to perform Bach Sonata g minor and Partita E major.

I believe this peaceful music is very needful for the human spirit.

Leading the audience (which can be age 1-99) to inner peace and also the higher regions at the same time. Also, I would love to explain the origin of music, the performing style changes through the ages. It will clearly come out why I chose the title for my performance:

Bach the Human. Also, after the performance, outside the building can share some ideas with the audience. Perhaps enjoying some local wine and cheese from farmers.

    Repertoire:

Bach Sonata g minor for violin solo
Bach Partita E Major for violin solo
